Parshuram Temple is one of the ancient temple in Chiplun, in konkan region of maharashtra state.
It was almost month I was planning to visit Parshuram Temple, finally thanks for long holiday on Holi festival, here in konkan known as SHIMGA UTSAV.
Shimga is one of the popular festivals in maharashtra. It is celbrated on full moon day of Marathi Month of Phalgun which usually comes in the month march. Dancing with Palkhi is a ritual at the time of Shimga (holi) festival. This is popular in Ratnagiri district of Konkan region and is celebrated by all people irrespective of age, caste and creed. Shimga is celebrated in the period between the months of February and March after the holi celebration.
Well, it was not plan for Parshuram Temple, but it was 3.30 and planing to for long drive and we started from home at 4 in evening, I just took left turn from hathkhambha and decided to visit Parshuram Temple at Chiplun.
I never visited Chiplun before but heard about Parshuram Temple is nearby Chiplun, while going towards Chiplun at many place we saw directions for Parshuram temple.
We reached chiplun by 5.30 and we asked local people how to go to temple and how far it is from chiplun. It was hardly 10 kms from there. While going towards chiplun you will find many hotels and dhabas, but before chiplun I found one pure veg restaurant Shiv Sagar, we halt for tea and had onion uttappa, taste was good, while leaving from restaurant, we asked them about the Parshuram Temple, they guide us with proper information, and more thing I would share something, normally we see food menu in hotel but in this restaurant. They prepared chart of the famous tourist places of konkan. ( You can see in the pictures below).
Finally we reached Parshuram Village. Parshuram village is situated at a height of more that 1000 feet from sea level. In many scriptures it has ben mentioned that, lord Parshuram stayed at “Mahendragiri” for his austerity after renunciation of his power. This Mahendragiri is nothing but “Parshuram” village.
As Lord Parshuram is immortal, it is assured that Lord stays at Mahendragiri & goes at Himalaya for austerity. From years together, the Devottees of Lord Parshuram are visiting this place & experiencing blissful life.
The Lord of kokan was created by Lord Parshuram. The Koli community believes in lord Parshuram as their protector & hence before sailing into sea for the first time on every “Ashadhi Ekadashi” kolis worship lord Parshuram. Every year on “Aashadhi Ekadashi” many spiritual activities like “Harinam Sankirtan” are performed by Devottees.
It is dedicated to Bhargavram or Parshuram. There is a central shrine surrounded by two smaller buildings. It is a devotional place.
The temple is having an idol of Parashuram in Middle, God Brahma in right and Lord Shankar on the left. 300 years ago Brahandra Swami reconstructed the temple and that time the idols of Gods were consecrated here. The combination of Hindu, Muslim and European architecture is seen in this temple.
There is a temple of Renuka, mother of Lord Parshuram, behind the Parashuram temple. There is a tank called as Banganga Talav which is believed to be made by Parashuram by arching five arrows to the ground. There is a festival every year on the Mahashivrathri Day.
